In this smartphone era, Android has become more than just a mobile device OS. These devices are now treated as the most portable equivalent of a personal computer, tablet and phone all in one. With the right set of tools – calendars, notes, task lists, office suites, cloud storage & sharing, and other nifty work apps, an Android owner can have an indispensable personal assistant / productivity coach.

Beyond the Apps: Android Productivity Guide

How do you make the most out of your Android device? We put together a list of some of the best Android applications for you to create the only personal assistant you’ll ever need:

  • Calendar and To-do lists

aCalendar. While Android already has a pretty neat calendar, aCalendar makes the task of planning intuitive and easy. With options for planner selection, you can set your calendar to move up or down in the increments that you prefer. Evernote. When it comes to multiple notebooks, nothing beats Evernote. The app has notes, lists, images, voice reminders and practically everything you ever dreamed to put in a notebook. It also syncs with its own service so accessing your notebooks between devices is easy. Any.do. This app is a list and task manager in one. Its the Any.do Moment feature that allows users to review daily plans, like any productive person does at the start of the day. Trello. This app works great for people who treat tasks like mini-projects. From big events and team projects to hobbies, Trello will have you organizing down to the little but most important details. The app also syncs with its own system so you can access your projects from their website.

  • Office

QuickOffice. Recently acquired by Google, this office suite features the basic functions of Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and is closely integrated with Google Drive making accessibility topnotch. OfficeSuite Pro. If you’re looking for full features, OfficeSuite Pro is the way to go. It offers full professional functionality, amazingly akin to working on your desktop. The only downside is that the app comes at a cost (but you may find it totally worth it!). Polaris Office. If Dropbox is your cloud of choice, you will love Polaris Office. This free app has full support for office functions, but will only work with Dropbox.

  • Cloud Storage and Sharing

Google Drive. This is the most common choice among users due to its close integration with Android. Google Drive is a great companion for your office suite and will allow sharing and offline saving. Dropbox. One of the pioneers for free cloud storage and sharing, Dropbox does what it claims to do – to serve as online locker for all your files. It also allows sharing and collaboration among users.

  • Other nifty apps

SwiftKey. Famous for its next-word prediction capability, this app will have your device functioning like your brain in no time. ClockworkTomato and Pomodoro. These two are great timers for believers of the great Pomodoro productivity technique. Work cycles and logs can really boost your productivity. TripIt and FlightTrack. For people who travel, these two apps are the best trip organizers in the market. The apps will record and remind you of flight itineraries, track changes and basically all travel-related details you’ll ever encounter on the road. RescueTime. This free app is every working person’s conscience. RescueTime tracks everything happening on the Android and gives a (nagging) report about how much time was spent on games and other non-work apps. It is your own boss in an app!
