Providing a user-friendly avenue for physicians to stay updated on primary medical literature.
Our client, a physician herself, wanted to create a mobile app to assist physicians in navigating the continued-learning materials required for medical licensing.

Challenge
Upon graduating from medical training, there is no systematic way to stay updated on medicine. Medical examination committees require physicians to obtain a passing score on an exam once every ten years, but there's no structured way for a physician to know if they’re actually on top of the required material. Our client did a lot of legwork in working with board examination committees and clinical experts to figure out what information is high-yield and what search terms on PubMed can find that high-yield information.
Solution
We developed an application to take the XML file derived from those search terms and parse the data into a user-friendly format. We also added the capability for users to edit a standardized list of questions per article to help crowdsource information that's not readily available from XML files. The combination of parsing PubMed data to present it from users, and asking users to help add additional insights, creates a more user-friendly avenue of staying updated on primary medical literature.
