The Lifeguard goal to build a mobile app was to build a digital safe-consumption product designed to save lives. Developed in partnership with British Columbia Emergency Health Services (BCHES), the application’s goal was to allow people who use drugs to protect themselves from overdose by enabling direct access to emergency services. It needed to be accessible to all potential Users’ devices, be extremely simple to operate, and always work.

The founder and CEO of Lifeguard wanted to build social enterprises and businesses that have a social impact. Building a mobile app to tackle social issues has been the key focus with Lifeguard, inspired by the untimely death of one of his friends from fentanyl poisoning, the concurrent opioid addiction crisis across North America, and the critical need for solutions.

Essential Designs created a very modern and easy-to-use interface that helps drug users to reach potential life-saving support when in need. Built as a native iOS application and native Android application allows for the vast majority of device types to access.
A plan to integrate directly with BC Ambulance services without having to adjust their current process was developed by Essential Designs, using direct phone carrier integration for Voice to Text conversion, and GPS coordinate relaying.
